The BIOEFFECT Story
BIOEFFECT was founded in 2010 in Reykjavík by three Icelandic scientists (Björn Örvar, Einar Mäntylä, Julius Kristinsson) who had been working on plant molecular farming — specifically, growing human growth factors in barley plants. They launched the EGF Serum as their first product; at launch it was the first commercially-available topical EGF made without animal or human cell-culture involvement. The company grows all its EGF in greenhouses in Grindavík, Iceland, powered entirely by geothermal energy. Still independently-owned.
