Cross-linked hyaluronic acid is injected into specific tissue planes (subcutaneous, supraperiosteal, or submuscular depending on indication) using fine needles or blunt-tipped cannulas. The gel occupies the target space, displacing tissue to create lift, volume, or contour change. Hyaluronic acid also attracts water, so there's a small additional volume gain over the first few days. The body slowly degrades the cross-linked HA over 6–18 months via tissue hyaluronidase enzymes; rate of breakdown depends on product chemistry and the metabolic activity of the injection site (lips degrade faster than cheeks).

Consultation is essential — the injector marks the face, you both agree on the plan. Topical numbing for 20–30 minutes (most products also contain lidocaine).
