Copaíba Balsam
Also known as: Copaifera officinalis, Copaiba resin, Oleoresin
An Amazonian tree resin with a pharmacological CV — genuine anti-inflammatory credentials, not just a pretty label.
What It Does
Deep Dive
Tapped straight from Copaifera trees the way maple syrup comes from maples, copaiba balsam is ~50% beta-caryophyllene — a sesquiterpene with documented anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity in published research (it binds CB2 receptors, one of the few plant compounds that does). Brazilian and Peruvian indigenous medicine has used it for wounds and skin infections for 500+ years. In modern skincare it shows up in acne spot treatments and calming balms. Caveat: at high concentrations it can sensitise — keep it below 3% leave-on, and patch-test.
