Murumuru Butter
Also known as: Astrocaryum murumuru, Murumuru seed butter
Brazil's answer to shea — a creamy palm-seed butter that's the backbone of every Sol de Janeiro body lineup.
What It Does
Deep Dive
Pressed from the nut of the Astrocaryum murumuru palm, this butter is roughly 47% lauric acid and 26% myristic acid — a fatty-acid profile closer to coconut than shea, which makes it lighter, faster-melting, and more occlusive than you'd expect from its tropical feel. It's the hero of Brazilian body-first skincare (Sol de Janeiro, Granado, Natura Ekos) and shows up in hair conditioners for slip and shine. Not for face on acne-prone skin — those saturated fats can congest. Glorious on dry body, cuticles, and ends of hair.
