Buriti Oil
Also known as: Mauritia flexuosa, Tree of Life oil
The reddest oil in the Amazon — and one of the most carotenoid-dense plant oils on Earth.
What It Does
Deep Dive
Mauritia flexuosa, the moriche palm, grows in Amazonian wetlands and produces a fruit so rich in beta-carotene the oil measures brighter red than rosehip. That carotenoid load (40× carrots, roughly) makes it a photoprotective adjuvant — NOT a sunscreen, but studies suggest it quenches UV-generated free radicals. Also high in oleic acid and tocopherols. Used extensively in Brazilian post-sun formulas. The colour is real: expect a golden cast on skin that fades within minutes.
