Vitamin E (Tocopherol)
Also known as: tocopherol, tocopheryl-acetate, alpha-tocopherol, d-alpha-tocopherol
The antioxidant that makes every other antioxidant work harder. Usually listed near the bottom โ doing a lot of the quiet work.
What It Does
Deep Dive
Vitamin E is the umbrella term for eight fat-soluble tocopherols and tocotrienols, with alpha-tocopherol the most biologically active. Topically, it parks in the lipid layer of the stratum corneum and intercepts reactive oxygen species before they damage cell membranes. The real magic: it regenerates oxidized vitamin C, which is why the SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic formula became a 25-year benchmark. Present in almost every serum and balm on the market, often as tocopheryl acetate for stability. Not a hero, but the reason your heroes age gracefully in the bottle.
