If you like Laneige but wish it tried harder on the actives side, IOPE is the sister brand that delivers. The Bio Essence Intensive Conditioning line has been a quiet cult hit in Korea for over 25 years, and their cushion foundations are what K-pop idols actually wear. Less photogenic than Amorepacific's heritage lines, more effective.
Strengths
- + Strong Bio Essence line
- + Excellent cushion foundations
- + Backed by Amorepacific R&D
Weaknesses
- − Fragranced across most lines
- − Limited international distribution
The IOPE Story
Launched in 1996 as Amorepacific's bioscience-first skincare label, IOPE (short for "intelligent original prescription expert") is where the conglomerate parks its clinical-leaning R&D. The Bio Essence Intensive Conditioning — released in 2000 — predates SK-II's global push in Korea and still outsells most rivals domestically. The Air Cushion, launched in 2008, is the product that spawned the entire cushion-foundation category. Despite all that, IOPE stays mostly domestic; its global marketing spend goes to Laneige and Innisfree instead.

Expert Retinol RX 1% Super Bounce Serum
IOPE's Sephora-launch retinol — 1% pure retinol, the entry-level concentration in the brand's three-tier Expert Retinol RX line, designed for new retinol users who want serious anti-aging without retinol-veteran-level irritation. The formulation pairs the active with peptides, ceramide NP, and panthenol to buffer against the dryness and flaking that derail most retinol journeys. IOPE is owned by Amorepacific (Korea's biggest skincare conglomerate) and brings clinical-grade pharmaceutical R&D heritage to the consumer-skincare space. At $78 it's premium for K-beauty but cheaper than the dermatologist-grade alternatives it competes with.
