Safety Guide
Evidence-based safety information for using Tretinoin during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Tretinoin should be avoided during pregnancy. Consult your healthcare provider for safe alternatives.
Tretinoin is the gold standard of anti-aging and acne treatment โ and it's not even close. Unlike retinol, which needs to convert twice before it becomes active, tretinoin IS the active form of vitamin A. It's prescription-only for good reason: it works faster and more powerfully than anything over the counter, but it also causes more irritation. The K-beauty approach to tretinoin is all about buffering, hydrating, and supporting the skin barrier while the tret does its job.

Pregnancy
Absolutely contraindicated (Category X). Switch to bakuchiol or azelaic acid during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding
Avoid. Insufficient safety data. Use retinol alternatives.
Eczema / Dermatitis
Get flares under control before starting. Tretinoin on compromised skin causes severe irritation.
Rosacea
Use with extreme caution and only under dermatologist supervision. Many rosacea patients cannot tolerate tretinoin.
Never combine oral and topical retinoids. Extreme irritation and toxicity risk.
Can degrade tretinoin if applied simultaneously. Use benzoyl peroxide in the morning, tretinoin at night.
Both increase photosensitivity. Extra vigilance with sun protection required.
