Safety Guide
Evidence-based safety information for using Salicylic Acid for rosacea-prone skin.
Salicylic Acid is an active ingredient that may irritate rosacea-prone skin. Start with low concentrations and use infrequently. Discontinue if redness worsens.
Salicylic acid is the only commonly used BHA in skincare, and its oil-solubility is what makes it special. It can penetrate into pores to dissolve the sebum and dead cells that cause blackheads and breakouts โ something water-soluble AHAs simply can't do.

What It Does
Aspirin sensitivity
Salicylic acid is a salicylate, the same family as aspirin. Those with known aspirin allergy or sensitivity should patch test carefully and consult a healthcare provider before regular use
Pregnancy
High-dose salicylic acid (oral or high-concentration peels) is contraindicated in pregnancy. Low-concentration topical BHA (0.5-2%) is considered lower risk, but many dermatologists advise avoiding it as a precaution
Salicylic acid is chemically related to aspirin. Individuals with aspirin allergy or sensitivity should use with caution, as topical absorption can potentially trigger cross-reactivity
