Proteoglycans
Also known as: Hyaluronic acid cousins
The structural supporting molecules in the dermis โ increasingly added to anti-aging formulas as an HA complement.
What It Does
Deep Dive
Proteoglycans are large glycoprotein complexes that sit between cells in the dermis, binding water and giving tissue mechanical stability. Topical application has modest benefit โ the molecules are too large to penetrate meaningfully โ but they do improve stratum corneum hydration and feel luxe in formulas. More of a marketing-plus-surface-benefit ingredient than a deep actives claim.
