Calendula (Marigold)
Also known as: Calendula Officinalis, Marigold, Ringelblume
Weleda's original hero. The German apotheke flower that still outperforms most "clean" alternatives.
What It Does
Deep Dive
Calendula (Calendula officinalis) has been a cornerstone of European herbal medicine for centuries, from Bavarian farmhouse ointments to the modern Weleda baby line. Its flower heads contain triterpenoid saponins, flavonoids, and carotenoids with documented anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, and mildly antimicrobial activity. Randomised trials support its use for radiation dermatitis and episiotomy healing. In modern skincare it is the gentle anti-redness botanical of choice for baby, post-procedure, and eczema-prone skin. German and Austrian anthroposophic brands (Weleda, Dr. Hauschka) built entire product lines on calendula; the results are real if unglamorous.
