Every ingredient is checked against our pregnancy-safety database plus a curated list of known red flags.
Ingredients grouped as Avoid, Ask Your OB, or Safe โ with plain-language reasoning for each.
No. This is an informational checker โ helpful as a starting point, but always confirm with your OB-GYN or dermatologist about your specific pregnancy and skin.
Retinoids (retinol, retinal, tretinoin, adapalene, tazarotene, retinyl palmitate, Granactive Retinoid), hydroquinone, high-strength salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide at high concentrations, minoxidil, formaldehyde-releasers, phthalates, and thioglycolic acid are the main categories. We also flag some chemical sunscreen filters (oxybenzone, octinoxate) for consultation.
Because the data is limited, dose-dependent, or context-specific. Low-strength salicylic acid in a cleanser is often fine, but a leave-on peel at 20% isn't. Your OB knows your pregnancy โ we're giving you the conversation starter, not the final answer.
Absence of a flag isn't an all-clear. Our database covers ~100 ingredients with pregnancy research; anything we don't have data on is listed under 'No data' at the bottom. When in doubt, ask your OB.
Most retinoid guidance is the same for breastfeeding (avoid), but some ingredients are treated differently between pregnancy and lactation. We're focused on pregnancy here โ consult your provider for lactation-specific advice.
