The geisha's glow, bottled. Japanese women have pressed tsubaki oil from camellia seeds since the Heian period โ still works.
What It Does
Deep Dive
Camellia japonica seed oil is a light, golden oil with a fatty acid profile dominated by oleic acid (~85%) that mimics human sebum closely, which is why it absorbs without sitting heavy. Traditionally used on hair, scalp, and face across Japan, it contains squalene, vitamin E and camellia polyphenols that double as antioxidants. Shu Uemura and Tatcha built luxury lines around it. Works as the last step of a J-beauty routine or the nourishing core of a face oil blend. Safe for normal-to-dry skin; may be too rich for actively breaking-out complexions.
