What is Retinization?
Adaptation period to retinoids
Retinization is the 4–12 week period when skin adapts to new retinoid use. Common effects: dryness, peeling, redness, purging (increased acne before it clears), photosensitivity. Strategies to reduce retinization discomfort: start at low concentration (0.1–0.3%), use 2–3 nights/week (not nightly) at first, apply moisturizer BEFORE retinoid ('retinol sandwich'), never mix with other actives in the first 4 weeks. Full results take 12+ weeks consistent use.
