What is Ceramide Ratio (3:1:1)?
Skin's natural lipid balance
Healthy skin barrier contains three lipid classes in a specific ratio: ceramides (40–50%), cholesterol (25%), free fatty acids (10–20%). 'Triple lipid' moisturizers (SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore, Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin) replicate this 3:1:1 ratio for optimal barrier repair. Most moisturizers marketed as 'ceramide creams' skip cholesterol and fatty acids entirely, limiting effectiveness. Look for products that name all three in the INCI.
