Catrice is best known for cosmetics, but their skincare line — sold alongside the makeup at dm and Rossmann — is shockingly decent for the price. The Hydrating Face Mist and Clean ID Pure line are worth the €4 if you're building a budget routine.
Strengths
- + Drugstore pricing
- + Wide EU availability
- + Respectable clean-line formulas
Weaknesses
- − Fragranced across most lines
- − Limited premium actives
- − Primarily a makeup brand
The Catrice Story
Catrice launched in 2004 as Cosnova's sister brand to essence (a more teen-focused line) and positioned itself as the slightly more grown-up drugstore cosmetics option. Primarily sold through DM Drogerie Markt and Rossmann across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The skincare arm launched in 2015 and remained small until 2019, when the brand introduced its Clean ID line.

Clean ID Hyaluronic Boost Serum
Catrice cracked the German drugstore code with the Clean ID skincare extension — and the Hyaluronic Boost Serum at €5.99 is the calling card. Sodium hyaluronate up front, panthenol for soothing, and almost nothing else. The full INCI has ten ingredients. €6 hyaluronic serum that actually works is exactly the kind of thing that's made German drugstore skincare globally interesting.

Skin Glaze Hydrating Serum Primer
Catrice's skincare-forward primer — and one of the cheapest squalane-based hydrating products in any origin. Despite the 'primer' label, this functions as a hydrating essence: squalane delivers lipid-matched moisture, butylene glycol and acacia gum form a smooth hydration film, and the texture is a lightweight serum-gel that absorbs completely. Catrice is the skincare-adjacent arm of Cosnova (the German company behind essence cosmetics), and they've been quietly expanding from colour cosmetics into hybrid skincare-makeup products. Alcohol-free, fragrance-free, vegan, cruelty-free. At $8 for 30ml, this is extraordinary value — comparable squalane essences from The Ordinary or Biossance cost 2-4x more. Available at dm drugstores across Germany and international retailers.
