Plasma Pen (Fibroblast Therapy)

A handheld plasma pen generates a small electric arc between its tip and the skin surface, ionising the air and delivering concentrated heat to a pinpoint spot (~1mm). This creates a controlled micro-injury called a carbon crust. The surrounding tissue contracts immediately (visible tightening at appointment) and fibroblasts ramp up collagen/elastin synthesis over the following 8–12 weeks (progressive tightening). Treatment is grid-based: hundreds of individual plasma points across the treated area.

Numbing cream applied for 30–45 minutes before treatment. The treatment itself feels like a series of tiny hot pinpricks — most clients describe it as bearable but not pleasant. Immediately after: small brown crusts at each plasma point, mild swelling, and a sunburn-like sensation. Days 2–5: swelling peaks (especially around eyes), crusts darken. Days 5–7: crusts begin flaking off. Week 2: pink/red skin underneath fades to normal. Full collagen remodeling results visible at 8–12 weeks and continue improving for up to 6 months.

Plasma pen treatment (also called fibroblast therapy, plasma fibroblast, or soft-surgery) uses a device that ionizes the nitrogen and oxygen in the air between the tip and the skin, creating a tiny electrical arc that sublimates the top layer of skin and triggers a controlled wound-healing response. Unlike lasers (which use light) or radiofrequency (which uses electrical current through the tissue), plasma works via gas ionisation — the device tip never touches the skin. The micro-injuries stimulate fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin over the following 8–12 weeks, resulting in tightening that's particularly dramatic on areas where surgery would otherwise be the only option: upper and lower eyelids, neck, décolletage, and fine perioral lines. Gained significant popularity from 2018 onward as a lower-cost alternative to blepharoplasty ($400–700 per eyelid vs. $4,000–6,000 for surgery). Results typically last 1–3 years. Downtime is real: small brown crusts form at each plasma point and take 5–7 days to flake off, during which the skin looks dotted.
