How we rate K-Beauty

Real-world questions we hear all the time — from skin-type fit to where the ingredient deep-dives come from.

How does ChokChok pick which K-beauty products to rate?

We start with the products real readers ask about — bestsellers, viral launches, dermatologist recommendations — then run each through the same evidence rubric: INCI list, peer-reviewed support for active ingredients, formulation quality, and value. We don't accept payment for placement. If a product underperforms, the editor rating reflects that.

What does the editor rating actually mean?

Out of 10. It rolls together evidence behind the actives, formulation craft, sensorial experience, and price-to-performance. A 9+ means we'd recommend it without caveats; a 6–7 means it works but has a notable trade-off (price, smell, slow results). Below 5 means there's a better option in the same category.

How do you filter by skin type?

Use the skin type chips at the top of the listing — oily, dry, combination, sensitive, acne-prone, mature. Each product is tagged with the skin types it's formulated for, based on the brand's positioning, the active ingredients, and how the formula behaves in real use (we test).

Are these affiliate links?

Some are, some aren't — we link to whichever retailer is most likely to have the product in stock at a fair price. Affiliate revenue never influences ratings, and you can see every retailer we link from on the product page.

Why are some products tagged with a different beauty origin?

We cover Korean, Japanese, French, US, Italian, Brazilian, Indian, Australian, German, and Nordic beauty. The origin chip in the header lets you filter to just one tradition — or pick "All Beauty" to see everything. Categories and skin-type advice translate across origins, but the philosophy and hero ingredients differ.
