Sakura (Cherry Blossom)
Also known as: Prunus Serrulata Extract, Cherry Blossom Extract
The most photogenic ingredient in Japanese skincare. Largely poetry — but extremely pretty poetry.
What It Does
Deep Dive
Sakura (Prunus serrulata, the Japanese cherry blossom) has real in-vitro antioxidant activity from its polyphenol profile, but the concentrations used in cosmetics are usually too low to drive meaningful outcomes. Its true role is cultural: sakura marks the Japanese spring (hanami) and shows up in limited-edition releases from Shiseido, Tatcha, Kose, and nearly every convenience-store brand between March and April. Soft floral scent, subtle skin-comforting feel, unbeatable packaging. Charming seasonal indulgence, not a clinical hero.
