Mastic gum is the aromatic resin of Pistacia lentiscus trees, produced exclusively on the Greek island of Chios (protected designation of origin since 2014). Used for oral hygiene and GI complaints in Mediterranean traditional medicine. Modern skincare uses it for anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects against acne bacteria. Niche but interesting heritage ingredient.
