What is Acid Mantle?

Skin's protective pH layer

The acid mantle is a thin, slightly acidic film (pH 4.5-5.5) on the skin's surface formed by sebum and sweat. It acts as a barrier against bacteria, viruses, and environmental contaminants. K-beauty emphasizes maintaining the acid mantle through low-pH cleansers and pH-balanced products. Harsh cleansers that strip the acid mantle can lead to increased sensitivity, breakouts, and dehydration.
