Himalaya Herbals is less a beauty brand than a national infrastructure. Founded in 1930, its Neem Face Wash and Purifying Neem Face Wash are in what feels like every Indian bathroom โ and increasingly, every second South Asian expat household globally. The formulations are straightforward Ayurveda-modernized, the packaging utilitarian, the pricing democratic. Not here to be cool. Here because it works.
Strengths

- + budget-friendly
- + neem face wash is a cultural institution

The Himalaya Herbals Story
Founded by M. Manal in 1930 in Dehradun after he noticed restless elephants being calmed with a local herb (Rauwolfia serpentina), Himalaya Drug Company started as an Ayurvedic pharmaceutical research lab. The skincare arm โ Himalaya Herbals โ launched decades later and became one of India's most ubiquitous brands, exporting to over 100 countries. The Neem Face Wash alone reportedly sells multiple bottles per second in India. The formulas lean classical Ayurveda (neem, turmeric, sandalwood, tulsi) at prices that make them genuinely accessible, and the R&D arm still publishes clinical trials on its actives. Not the most glamorous brand in this category โ by far the most used.
